Once Upon a Time in California finds Belinda Carlisle interpreting songs connected with the musical landscape of her home state.
Belinda Carlisle released Once Upon a Time in California on 29 August 2025, returning to the studio for a collection rooted in the music of her home state.
Produced by Gabe Lopez, the album presents Carlisle’s interpretations of songs associated with California and its pop history rather than attempting to recreate the sound of her biggest 1980s records.
The project provides a personal link between her own career and the wider West Coast songwriting tradition that surrounded it.
